Leaders Without Vision Help No One

Today’s thought for the day is about CASTING A VISION… Do you have a vision? Are you sharing it? Learn why it is SO IMPORTANT…

Leaders are responsible for casting a vision and coaching their team.  Learn what it takes to establish such a strong direction for your business.

Wouldn’t it be funny if, during the next Friday night football game, the coach threw on shoulder pads, ran to take the place of his quarterback and told the team, “Don’t worry, I’ve got this!”

You may laugh, but ineffective leaders do this all of the time. They feel the need to close the big deals themselves and present on behalf of their team’s for the final report. It’s the same as running onto the field during the game!

What does it take to be an effective leader?

You Need a Strong Team

Most leaders have little to no free time in their day. To fix this, we first thing need to build a strong team.

“Teamwork makes the dream work, but a vision becomes a nightmare when the leader has a big dream and a bad team.” ~ John C. Maxwell

Find people, or hire replacements, that bleed your company’s colors and understand your WHY. If you have ever watch movies such as The Mighty Ducks or Remember the Titans, then you’ve seen that the first step is always to build the team.  Then, coach those players until they’re effective enough to run the processes without you. When all is done, you will finally have time to do work that matters.

Get Out of the Way!

Don’t micromanage.

Too often, leaders build the team as an extension of themselves. As a result, they find themselves burdened with having to approve every project and inspect every widget. This gobbles up your time and keeps you from being able to expand. After all, you only have so many hours in the day. But if you teach your team to work independently of you, then you have now grown beyond your limitations. It can be quite incredible.

You are now working on your business instead of in your business

Cast a Vision

Simply put, a leader’s main job is to cast a vision.

Do you remember how your business started? There was likely something that frustrated or excited you so strongly that you just had to do something. Your entire company started from a dream.

“I only hope that we don’t lose sight of one thing – that it was all started by a mouse.” ~Walt Disney

You need to constantly be dreaming in order to grow. Give yourself permission to have a 30,000 foot view of your business instead of a 3 foot view. Step away from the action long enough to explore new methods of operating, producing and expanding. You should be able to see the forest, not just the trees.

So there you have it. Build a strong team, get out of their way and allow yourself to dream. Constantly cast a vision, strengthen the mission and accomplish your goals.
